We need lots of people in service sector because a single person cannot control a huge crowd. The population is more and inorder to compete in the market, customer who purchases a product should be happy.
Example, if you buy a sim for your mobile. Unless and until you get proper customer support, you will not recommend the product to your source. This is the same for whatever service sector we take.

The economy is made up of many sectors and pieces, these pieces or sectors are responsible for bring about the success of the economy and the for example,
The service sector is the part of the economy that is responsible for producing intangible goods which can be said to be human services e.g arts, entertainment and recreation services, housekeeping, tours, nursing and teaching and the like.
Most people are settling for services because of the system that we are undergoing more the education system. For example, when an industry is open there will be need of services to make it run and successed.
In the present world the due to the rapid industrialisation a great number of employees are required for operation. This is why the present day econoy is also being referred to as the "knowledge economy"
