Answer: Most leaves have green upper surface due to the presence of large amount of chloroplast ( that bears green pigment called chlorophyll). The upper surface is exposed to sunlight, which helps in the synthesis of food through photosynthesis ( chlorophyll absorbs the energy from sunlight).

Upper surface of most leaves is shiny than the lower one because it is covered with thick layer of waxy cuticle that reflects excess of sunlight and prevents leaves from getting dehydrated.
