Explanation:

The main reason why aircraft are painted white or light colours is to reflect sunlight. Other colours will absorb most of the light. This is crucial as when sunlight is absorbed by an aircraft, this heats up the body of an airplane.

Military planes use grey colour for Air camouflage

History:

The Air Fighting Development Unit at Duxford studied the problem, and in the summer of 1941 replaced the dark brown with a paler color, "ocean grey"; the sky blue on the underside was similarly replaced by a paler "sea grey" to reduce visibility against the bright sky.

Explanation :

The gray colour is used so as to compromise a little on the heat reflection (ie. that with grey colour the military planes are hotter than conventional planes ) but as it offers many benefits of stealth it is a small compromise whereas civillian planes have no reason to hide and thats why they choose the best colour for air reflection that is white .

Hope it helps :)
