Tropical deserts are located between 10° to 30° north and south of the equator on the western margin of the continents, for example, AtacamaDesert in South America. Californiandesert in North America, Namib and Kalahari Desert in Southern Africa, Sahara and West Australian desert.

Most of the deserts are lying on the western margins because the tropical easterly winds blow there (prevailing winds in the tropics). By the time Tropical Easterly winds reach the west they are dried out. So, they bring no rainfall.
