Our brain process each sound with same mechanism. Sound is produced by vibrating air molecules connecting with the eardrum at varying frequencies (pitch) and velocities (amplitude). When some musical sound reaches the auditory canal, the cochlea resonated to corresponding frequency of incoming music sound. This resonance causes the cochlea to release neurotransmitters to the auditory nerve and and auditory nerve then reached to auditory brainstem passing through different layers in between.
