A complainant should not provide incorrect information because FIR is the first step of Criminal Procedure that leads to the trial and punishment of a criminal. 
FIR, is said to be, the very foundation on which the case stands.
And If someone does that and the statements made in the FIR is found to be defamatory in nature, the maker of the FIR maybe prosecuted.
