Why must we get rid of oxygen in radical polymerizations?

The oxygen react with the radicals generated in the reaction and, thus, will avoid the polymerization.

You do need to have a radical polymerization to be done in total absence of oxygen.

Oxygen will react with radical groups and you will not reach a good result.
