why nails have a flat top and pointed bottom

in nails the top is flat and broad because the force could be applied properly but the bottom is thin so that pressure created is more as force is inversely proportional to pressure

Pointed ends occupy a very small area , as a result of which the pressure ( = force / area ) on the walls/ objects due to the applied force is more and pins / nails can easily pierce.They have a flat head for our convinience.
