The National Safety Day/Safety Week Campaign being spearheaded by the Council for nearly three decades to mark its Foundation Day (4th March) has significantly contributed to reduction in the rate of industrial accidents and created wide spreadsafety awareness even in such sectors which have not been covered by any safety.

Every year National Safety Week is celebrated on 4th March. National Safety Week was earlier known as National Safety Day. Mishaps and accidents occur due to our carelessness and lack of awareness. The National Safety Week is celebrated in order to emphasize the importance of safety in all realms of life and to prevent such unfortunate incidents. National Safety Week is observed on 4th March because it marks the foundation of the National Safety Council. The National Safety Council is a non-profit, self - funding, three-fold body at the national body which was established by the Government of India on 4th March 1966 with a vision to evolve and sustain a movement based on safety, health and environment at the national level.
