Living fossil is an organism who has remained unchanged since a early geological time but its close relatives have become extinct.
Neoplina is the oldest living fossil. It has a single dome-shaped shell which is remnant of limpet shells. Before its discovery, similar shells were also known which were earlier called as limpets or chitons. There were serially arranged muscle scars on the inner surface of the shell of Neoplina and it became the representative of a new class Monoplacophora.
