Ammonia smells so badly . Because of 2 reasons.
1.in our nose there are smell detectors present fr very strong smell and ammonia have too much strong smell that's why our nose detects it's smell and it is also harmful for us .
2. Ammonia is a by product obtained after the purification process {the rotting of dead flesh} and it's too much harmful for human beings and also it smells very bad .

Ammonia is easily dissolvable in Water forming Hydroxide. Ammonia in air dissolves in humidity in air. Also Ammonia could dissolve quickly in the humid mucus in the nose.

In our nose we have chemoreceptors. They identify Ammonia faster due to this reason.  Further the strong reactivity of Ammonia with our smell receptors causes us to feel that it is pungent.  Our smell receptors can identify rotten smells and Ammonia more quickly and better than other smells.  So that keeps us away from toxic gases.

Which gas or smells which way is decided by its reaction with the smell receptors in our olfactory (smelling sensor) system.

Ichan: THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH FOR THIS ONE.
