Usually the nitric acid obtained in laboratory is not a colorless acid, but has yellow- ish brown color, due to partial decomposition of the acid. It is be made color less either by dilution so that nitrogen dioxide formed(responsible for the color ) dissolves In this water, OR by bubbling air through the warm acid.
