Why Nitric acid produces water on reacting with metals instead of hydrogen gas???​

Hydrogen gas is not envolved when a metal reacts with nitric acid (HNO3). It is because nitric acid is a strong oxidising agent.It oxidises H2 produced to water and itself gets reduced to nitrogen oxides.

Cu + 4HNO3 => Cu(NO3)2 + 2NO2 + 2H2O
