Nitric Oxide is NO. In it the total no. of electrons are 15. This means that all electrons of NO are not paired and it is thus paramagnetic. The unpaired electron excites to a higher electron on gaining energy and when it comes back, it emits a photon of a specific wavelength corresponding to that of Brown colour in Visible Region.
