why nitroethane soluble in sodium hydroxide

- In basic medium (NaOH) , H-atom from alpha-C gets removed creating negative charge.
- This creates partial double bond character C-N bond and gets stabilized by resonance.
- Therefore, nitroethane is soluble in sodium hydroxide solution.


* Long chain nitroalkanes are less soluble in NaOH soln.
