why nitrogen show maximum covalency 3 and potassium 5?​

Answer:

nitrogen has maximum covalency of 4 and not 3 because of its small size and absence of d orbital it can't expand its octet but phosphorus had empty d orbital so it can expand its octet and can have a valency of 5
