No H2 gas is evolved when Metals react with HNO3 ( nitric acid ) because Nitric acid is the string oxidising agent and hence, when H2 is evolved it oxides hydrogen.
2nd reason, HNO3 is the strong oxidising agent that s why, it is difficult to dissociate H+ ions from nitric acid solution.

When metals react with nitric acid no hydrogen is produced because nitric acid, being a strong oxidising agent, oxidises the produced hydrogen to form water.
