It is because cells are used to build body,i.e, our body is made up of cells, from our head to our feet. Therefore it is called Structural and functional unit
of life.
Whereas, mitochondria is the organelle that converts our energy in form of ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate). When our body needs energy, it releases ATP that provides us power.

cell builds up the tissues and mitochondria is the power house of cell. With mitochondria we can't build tissues, it can only be done by cells. hence, cells are the building blocks of all organisms
