Stomata are found on either both sides or on just one side of the leaf . In dicot plants the number of stomata is greater on the lower surface than on the upper surface of the leaf. On the other hand, monocot plants have the same number of stomata on bothsurfaces of the leaf.
All surface of the leaves have some amount of stomata for regulating gas exchange for photosynthesis .
However , the lower epidermis has more , because it is more often in the shade and it is cooler , which means evaporation won't take place as much , evaporation here means plant loses water which is vital for life.
