why o most food chains consists of four steps
TPS:
It is true that as the level in a food chain increases, the amount of energy passed decreases. To be precise, according to 10% rule, only 10% of the energy is transferred from one level to another. So in a four level food chain, the top carnivore will get only 0.01% of the initial energy.

energy is lost to the surrounding as food chain goes from one to the next level.so there are only less organisms at each level in a food chain.
therefore if the food chain goes beyond four or five there will be no animals left to eat
eg: grass>>>>>.rabbit>>>>>fox>>>>>>lion then ??????????????????????

Most food chains consists of four steps as animals have different energy requirements. As food chain increases the energy also get reduced and at last the food can be eaten by the animals which have less energy.
