why oblique ray is needed to define refraction? plzz show me with a diagram plzzz

when a ray of light travelling in air enters oblique into water, it bends toward the normal this is because water is optically denser due to which the speed of light waves decrease phone and bring water, making the light bend towards the normal.

♥When a ray of light passes from a denser material (eg water or glass) into a less dense material (eg air) it is bent towards the surface between the two materials.

♥This means that in this situation the angle of refraction is always greater than the angle of incidence.
