Why oes be oh2 dissolve in NaOh but mgoh2 does not?

Brcause Mg(OH)2 is a base and sodium hydroxide is also a base and bases do not react with acids.

Beryllium hydroxide[Be(OH)2 ] is known to be amphoteric in nature, thereby reacting with an acid as well a base. However, magnesium hydroxide [ Mg(OH)2 ] is a basic compound.
