It is because of absence of an atmosphere in the space, which doesn't allow "Scattering of light".
See this means the absorption and remission of incoming light rays. Now, since there r not much solid particles in space, none reflects light in our eyes, thus we see space as black outside the earth.

We only see black color in space because there is no atmosphere and no particles for the scattering of light to take place.
