why only metal lose electron ?and non metal gains electron why !!!!?

usually metal have only one electron in outermost shell so they donate it and non metals are only a single electron short of getting its octet or duplet so they gain it

Metals are electropositive elements so they like to lose electrons & non-metals are electronegative elements so they like to gain electrons
