why Organisms exhibiting external fertilization show great synchrony between the sexes and release a large number of gametes into surrounding medium?

in external fertilization majority of the gametes get wasted as they are released in the environment. in order to compensate for this loss, large number of gametes are produced. also, gametes need to be released at the same time if fertilization is to occur, hence there is synchrony between the sexes.

In External fertilization , many / majority of male gametes are destroyed or wasted as it was released in environment .

In order to compensate for this issue of loss, a large number of gametes is expelled by the male.

And also the both Gametes are supposed to release at same time for fertilization and thus shows the great synchrony between the sexes
