given are the points
•Indian ocean is named after India because, India holds a central location which is at the head of the Indian Ocean.
•India has the longest coastline in the region adding to its clout, no other country in the Indian ocean indeed has that long a coastline.
•India also serves as an important transit point for sea routes connecting the two regions that is countries of Europe with countries of East Asia. The name aslo has historical significance as once upon a time India was the no. 1 exporter.Just as India derived it's name from the river Indus, similarly the Induseventually will drain into the Indian Ocean. Hence it is called the Indian Ocean.
