why our body temperature increase during fever
Answers
We usually get fever when a pathogen(such as a rhino virus) tries to invade our body. Now, many people would think that it's the pathogen that causes the fever. Rather, it's your own immune system that causes fever.
Whenever a pathogen tries to infect your body, it is resisted by your immune system. There are two types of immunities.
Innate immunity
Acquired immunity
Innate immunity is the immunity which is present in us since our birth i.e innately while acquired immunity is the immunity which we acquire throughout our life.
There are four basic barriers against any bacteria or virus in our innate immunity.
They are as follows :
Anatomical barrier
Physiological barrier
Phagocytic barrier and
Inflammatory barrier.
The anatomical barrier includes our skin and mucous membrane.
The physiological barrier includes physiological factors.
The phagocytic barrier brings about phagocytosis of invading bacteria.
And finally, the inflammatory barrier brings about the inflammation around the infected or injured part.
Now, fever or pyrexia comes under the physiological barrier. Physiological barriers like body temperature, pH and body secretions prevent growth of many invading pathogens.
When any pathogen invades our body, the body reacts by increasing its temperature.
When our body temperature is elevated, it inhibits further growth of many pathogens, as they are unable to reproduce at higher temperatures
Thus, fever is nothing but your body's way of protecting itself against the harmful pathogens.
TLDR ; the body temperature increases during a fever to inhibit further growth of the pathogens
