Our constitution came into effect on 26 January because on 26 January 1929 during the Lahore session of congress a resolution Poorna Swaraj was passed and the tricolour was hoisted. Hence it was decided that 26 January would be celebrated as independence day. But when India got independence and the process of making the constitution was over on 26 Nov 1949, it was decided that there could be no better day than 26 January for Republic of India to come into being. Even before the Independence Congress has passed a resolution saying that from January 26 , 1930 India will celebrate its independence on January 26 every year
