why our eyes get irritation when we cut onion

dear your answer is when we cut an onion its cell break and release an enzyme which contain sulfenic acid sulfenic acid is very unstable it evaporate easily this react with water in our eyes and cause irritation in the eyes which result in tears

When we cut an onion, a gas called Propanethiol S-oxide is released. When mixed with certain enzymes in onion, it creates a sulphur gas. These gases then get to your eyes and create a mild acid which irritates the eyes.
