Ovum is larger than sperms because ovum carries cytoplasm and organelles is necessary for cell division and growth to begin but sperms are basically cell nucleus and a tail.

That is the major reason why eggis so much larger. In addition, eggcontains almost all organelles, materials, and nutritions for zygote growth. However, a sperm only contains haploid chromosome and certain mitochondria for movement. This is the second reason why egg is larger than sperm.
