Why oxides in higher oxidation state are more acidic?

generally a compound of a element with higher oxidation state is more acidic than the compound of that element with lower oxidation state ..this is because in higher oxidation state the metal oxides are highly covalent in nature

in higher oxidation states metaloxides are more covalent in nature as the polarizing power of the metal ion proportional to itsoxidation states. so their oxidesare acidic in nature. but in the lower oxidation state ionic character is more so metal oxidesare basic in nature.
