The reactivity series of metalstowards oxygen can assist us in predicting reactions involving metals. A reaction will take place if carbon or hydrogen is more reactive than the metal. The carbon or hydrogen will remove the oxygen from the metal oxide. This reaction occurs if metal X is more reactive than metal Y
