Answer:
Pakistan under General Musharraf cannot be called a democracy because,
i. First of all, people can elect their representatives for national assembly but the elected representatives are no rulers of assembly.
ii. The rulers cannot make the final decision, only Musharraf can do that.
iii. In 1999, Musharraf found a military coup that can overthrow the government who are elected by democracy.
iv. The cabinet was supervised by the council who were under military forces and surprisingly, none of them was elected.
v. In August 2002, Musharraf issued an order named "Legal Framework Order", by this, he dismissed the national authority.
Pakistan is a democracy despite of its allegations of supporting terrorists. However, those allegations on Pakistan are fading nowadays. Pakistan is a Muslim majority country that was ruled by Pervez Musharraf. Musharraf’s rule in Pakistan could not be considered as a democratic rule as it was completely a dictatorship.
Here, are the reasons for why one needed to consider Musharraf’s rule in Pakistan as dictatorship
- Musharraf’s rule in Pakistan had controlled the representatives who were elected by the people of Pakistan.
- People elected representatives were restricted to take own decisions.
- Rather than elected representatives, army generals and Musharraf have taken final decisions on any implementations in Pakistan.
- Decision making responsibilities were given to high rank generals who were not elected by the people and the elected representatives obeyed their orders.
