Because it rejects the current whose frequency is equal to resonance frequency.
Explanation:
At resonance the inductive reactance and capacitive reactance becomes equal and opposite. So, they cancel the effect of each other. The resistive component is left behind in the circuit. Hence, the impedance of the circuit will be maximum. So, it will not allow or reject the current whose frequency is equal to the resonance frequency.
