When a star is more than 100 light years away, then the parallax angle is so small that it cannot be measured accurately.

The parallax method depends on the fact that when you see an object against a distant background from two different points, the position (angle) of the nearby object changes. The obvious limitation of the method is the change in angle; if it is too small, you cannot use the parallax method.
