Why patients of diabetes are advised to take special diet?

Patients of diabetes usually suffer from diabetes mellitus in which blood sugar levels increase and can't be converted in glycogen by body as lack of insulin . So they are advised not to eat sweet food that contains sugar

Condition can be treated by taking insulin injections or by taking artificial sweeteners ( sugar free sugar )
