Answer:

Many herbivores are also small, lithe, agile and have little strength against the average large dog.

Most herbivores also graze all day. Elephants eat a whopping amount each day.

Elephants are a completely different species, they’re made to be huge, thick skin, tusks, gigantic ears, amazing sense of smell.

Why are people always comparing species and feeling so confused? How big would a human nose need to be, to be on a par with an elephant’s sense of smell? You really want a trunk hanging off your face? :D

I suspect that LARGE herbivores have evolved to be able to use protein in such a way that it gives life to their genetic blueprint i.e. be big. My genetic blueprint as a human is to be a certain height, weight etc. and be a human being. I cannot eat what animals eat and vice versa. Ever seen an elephant having chicken soup or a spicy curry?

Why do people seem determined to think that it’s amazing that animals are so large eating plants? There are animals that are carnivores and they are miniscule. Maggots anyone?? What would we call a mosquito? Fresh blood for the females. How many parasites exist on living mammals? Birds of prey hunt and kill but are small.

A tiger, leopard etc. is fast, deadly and smaller than an elephant. Maybe the reason why elephants, gorillas, giraffes etc are so large is so they can stand a chance against their predators? Maybe that’s the trade-off. Be huge and live on plants, or be smaller and an alpha predator. It would be very strange if it was the other way around??? A lion the size of an elephant chasing a tiny elephant the size of a lion? No elements of surprise there! Not to mention, serious injury awaits such a huge animal charging after others.

We should not be focusing on the foods we eat versus the size differences between species. We should rather be acknowledging that different species exist, and food sources are finite i.e. we’re either going to eat animals, plants, or what….micro-organisms
