There are two parts in a soap molecule - hydrophobic and hydrophilic. Soap molecules attach themselves to the grease or dirt particles with the help of these and form a cluster called micelle. The micelles remain suspended as a colloid. It is necessary to agitate the clothes in order to remove these micelles which have entrapped the dirt.
