Diesel engines have higher torque because of their larger piston travel (stroke), hence they have higher load carrying capacity making them useful for trucks. ... petrol engine basically used for high speed(low load) vehicles like car, motorcycle. while diesel engine is used for heavy load vehicles like truck, buses etc.
