The pituitary gland is often called the master gland because it controls several other hormone glands in your body, including the thyroid and adrenals, the ovaries and testicles.

The pituitary gland or the master gland controls the secretion of hormones from the other endocrine glands, including the thyroid, adrenal etc.
*It secretes the hormones which induce gamete formation in the gonads, testes and ovaries.
*It also secretes the growth hormone which plays an important role in the growth of adolescents
*Main hormones secreted by pituitary gland include, Growth hormone, TSH, FSH, LH, ACTH, MSH, Vasopressin and Oxytocin.
