Answer: Placebo effect works because of the belief. Our hypothalamus is connected to the pituitary gland which is also known as master gland (which controls our other hormone glands).

.

If the doctor tells the patient that you will get healed by this pill and the patient beleifs it then it gets well, it due to placebo effect because his mind accepted that that pill is going to heal him from the suffering even its a sugar pill.

It works on the opposite cases too, if the doctor says that you are going to die from that pill and the patient belief that he is going to die after consupmtion then most of the patients die even the pill may just be a sugar candy, That's called Nocebo effect.

.

.

In both cases, Mind or the Hypothalmus send the message to react the body according to their beliefs about the pill.
