Why places in the east are ahead of those in the west?
Answers
As the earth rotates from west to east, those places east of Greenwich will be ahead of Greenwich time and those to the west will be behind it.The earth rotates 360° in about 24 hours, which means 15° an hour or 1° in four minutes.

Why do places in the East have their time ahead compared to the places in the West? What are some examples of it?
Safety always comes first, Asia’s Safest Bank for 11 years.
The day begins on the international date line. For the most part it is longitude 180 deg East. It is 12 hrs ahead of GMT or London or Zulu ie Each 15 degrees of Longitude equals 1 hr in time. So if you live East of the Prime Meridian your time will be plus Zulu. if you live west of the PM your time will be Zulu minus. For instance if you live in Moscow your Zulu+3 hrs, However if you live in Seattle you will be Zulu -8 Hrs (These are standard times)
(THE TIME ZONES ARE SET POLITICALLY AND ARE NOT TRUE TO THEIR LONGITUDE. )
The reason of course is because the Earth rotates towards the east therefore time in the east is ahead of the west. The day begins at 180 East and ends on 180 West
So when traveling headed West and you cross the dateline you go into tomorrow. and when traveling East and cross the date line you go back into yesterday. Take a tourist from Tokyo who goes on a vacation in Hawaii. He arrives in Honolulu the the day before he leaves Tokyo!. I know this all sounds quite confusing. But think about it, A day has to begin somewhere and end somewhere. That somewhere is the dateline. Prior to inventing the date line Magellan on his voyage of circumnavigation arrived in the Indonesian archipelago and found his log books were a day out. Now to loose a day in a ships log book is a big deal. Then finally they fig out what had happened, The dateline was established and things worked out for the better .
