most plants can tolerate salt water on there leaves and stems but they will dehydrated if they drink salt water from the soil. even if they don't dehydrated they may be poisioned by the acsses of Salt in there steams............. ( :

Since the concentration of salt water is very high and water always travels from a region of low concentration to high concentration hence the plant looses much amount of water and cannot grow well.
