Why plants die under water logged condition?

The plants die if their roots remain waterlogged for a considerable time.This is because too much water expell all the air from in between the soil particle. Due to this, oxygen is not available to root for aerobic respiration. Under these condition roots will respire anaerobically, producing alchohol.This may kill the plant.
