Why plants give carbon dioxide in night

Carbon dioxide is been emitted by plant 24 hours because CO2 is byproduct of respiration. Plants are living organism and they respire. At night time the emission of oxygen is zero because the photosynthesis process is stopped due to unavailability of sunlight so only CO2 is been emitted.
