why plants gives out oxygen during day and carbon dioxide during night

during day time the plants undergo photosynthesis this process cannot take place at night bcz 1 important ingredient is sunlight and carbon dioxide the products of photosynthesis are glucose and oxygen . glucose is used for energy and oxygen is removed. and at night there is no sunlight so the plants respire therefore they give out carbon dioxide.
