Plants produce a lot of seeds to ensure the continuation of species. It is the seeds that contain the embryo and also grow into a new plant.

Explanation:

Also, for plants it is not certain which seeds on reaching the soil would grow into plants. Some seeds may grow into plants while others may not. So if a few seeds are produced and none of them grows, the plant species will die.

When there are many seeds produced, some of them turn into new plants and therefore the plant species continues and is dispersed far and wide.
