Why plastic is known as polymer?

Plastics in general are referred as polymers because they are made up of polymers. ... Plastics are purely synthetic, man-made material. Plastics are classified as thermosetting and thermoplastic polymers. - Thermosetting polymers are also known as thermo-sets which is that they solidify into a permanent shape.
