Explanation:

Plastic has a major component in the aerospace industry since 1970. They reduce the weight of the aircraft and improve fuel efficiency. When it comes to military aircraft, they help extend flight range with help jets evade radar detection

Answer:

Plastics are mostly used in these areas because of its light weight. Therefore by making them lighter, we can reduce the manufacturing cost and fuel cost.

Plastics are preferred not only because of its light weight, it has other advantages like good optical properties, good scratch resistance, shiny appearance and also high strength-to-weight ratio.

Plastic's strength can be improved by fiber reinforcements. These are called polymer matrix composites(PMC), which are most widely used in these areas. Glass fibers, carbon fibers, boron fibers, etc are some examples of fiber reinforcements.

These composites are slowly replacing metals in almost all applications.

Thank you ;-)
