Ploughing is done before sowing so that the soil layer which is below comes up, bringing up the fresh nutrients on to the layer so that the plants which will be grown will grow well.
By doing so, even the left over weeds and plants get into the soil thus they break down
It helps the roots to penetrate deep into the soil so that they can get the water
Ploughing improves air circulation so that the roots can breath well
